I haven’t seen the film but there has been so much fuss about it that I decided to read the book. I must confess that I am not acquainted with Philippa Gregory’s work but I know that her claims to historical accuracy have been highly disputed by historians, especially concerning her portrait of Anne Boleyn.
Controversy apart, If you like historical fiction, this makes for engaging reading. To be honest, I am not really concerned with Ms Gregory’s authorial claims; if I want to know about Tudor history, I will look for publications by Tudor historians instead. As far as I am concerned this is fiction and its entertaining reading.
